Stephen Curry played out of his mind and set a new personal best in scoring in Sunday’s game against the Portland Trail Blazers.
The Golden State Warriors suffered a 25-point loss against the Portland Trail Blazers on Friday. The two teams are squaring off again Sunday, and Stephen Curry clearly wanted to take matters into his own hands with a career-high 62 points on 8-of-16 shooting from 3-point range.
The legendary shooter got off to a hot start and had 45 points entering the fourth quarter. The dominance got started early with a huge first quarter and Curry ended up with a record-setting night.
Stephen Curry makes personal history
His 21 first-quarter points were needed, considering the Warriors only took a 36-33 lead into the second. Let’s jump ahead to the third quarter, when the Warriors continued to pull away as Curry reached the 45-point mark.
Curry has usually had a ton of talent around him, so having the opportunity to go for 50 was not a necessity. He entered Sunday with a career-high of 54 points set way back in 2013. He hit 50 against the Blazers with over five minutes remaining in the game.
This game marks the team’s sixth of the season and also the sixth time Curry will lead his squad in scoring. That is going to be expected every single night with Klay Thompson out and Curry as the lone remaining star. Draymond Green remains as well, but he had 0 points in 24 minutes late in the fourth quarter.
Back to Curry, he reached 52 points with just over three minutes remaining. Then he tied with career-best with two casual free throws. Did he stop there? Oh no, he certainly did not. Curry drilled a few more from deep just to be safe and finished the night with 62 points on 18-of-31 shooting from the floor and 18-of-19 from the line.
This is a vintage performance from Curry, and it will be fun to see if he can keep up his great scoring pace this season as the main option on the floor for Golden State.
