Jaylen Brown obliterates Grizzlies and his own career high on big night

Jaylen Brown destroyed the Grizzlies and his own personal scoring record at the same time.

Jaylen Brown went off for the Boston Celtics in a blowout victory over the Memphis Grizzlies on Wednesday night. He dropped a casual 42 points in only 29 minutes, scoring all his points in the first three quarters!

His personal best before this was 34 points, so now he is going to have 50 on the mind after breaking the 40-point barrier with a career night.

Brown simply had it going Wednesday and was hot right from the start, shooting 15-for-21 from the floor, 7-for-10 from 3-point range and chipping in 5 rebounds and 4 assists for good measure.

Jaylen Brown’s career night

The Celtics star hit six of his seven 3-pointers in the first half and could have kept it rolling if he had been needed in the fourth quarter. It would’ve been awesome to see how high he might have gone, but there was no competitive reason to have him on the floor late a game that was basically over by the fourth quarter.

Brown has seen a steady rise in his play since being drafted third overall in 2016. He averaged 6.6. points per game as a rookie and was up over 20 points per game last season. His start so far this year should have him easily averaging well above 20 per game. Brown went for 33 in the season-opening victory over the Milwaukee Bucks.

The former top pick has faced his fair share of criticism since being drafted, but he is still only 24 years old and was averaging 22 points per game during the postseason in the NBA bubble. At this point, it’s clear he is the real deal and can shine as one of the focal pieces of the franchise.

Scoring 42 points is a special feat. Doing so in only three quarters of play is not something your average player can do. Brown seems to be reaching his peak and should already be in the conversation to make his first All-Star Game in 2021.
