Daryl Morey had a tweet land him in trouble once again, but this time the focus was James Harden.
Daryl Morey famously found himself in trouble back in 2019 when a tweet about Hong Kong lost the NBA a fortune in the Chinese market. The morality of the tweet itself is a different discussion.
Morey is now with the Philadelphia 76ers, and his Twitter account got him in trouble once again. This time it was because of a tweet about James Harden, but there is more to the story of his latest $50,000 fine.
Daryl Morey claims automated app is the culprit
Morey’s account shared a tweet he had posted a year prior about Harden. The NBA saw that and immediately fined him for tampering. That is already a rule, and it makes more sense considering Harden wants to be traded by the Houston Rockets.
The weird part here is the tweet was shared by an automated app. But it’s not like Morey’s account is littered with such Twitter memories. He certainly had to manually allow the app to post to his timeline, right?
This is either a bizarre mistake or a sinister act of tampering by Morey. It is just tough to believe the one memory that did pop up on his feed is one to cost him $50,000. Maybe he was just messing around with the app and didn’t think twice about the Harden tweet after spending years with the Houston star.
The theories can go on, but they don’t change the fact Morey has been fined. At this point, he may just want to avoid the app altogether. He has already had more mishaps in the past year than many users have had since they joined the app.
Morey’s top focus should be on making the 76ers a better team, and trading for Harden is one way to do that. Then he can share all the Harden-related content he desires.
