Enes Kanter traded to Portland in three-team deal

Enes Kanter is heading back to Portland via a three-team trade.

The NBA Draft took place earlier this week and free agency gets underway Friday night. The season itself starts in just over a month so a full offseason is being crammed into a short amount of time.

A notable trade has also been thrown into the mix as the Boston Celtics have sent Enes Kanter to the Portland Trail Blazers. The Memphis Grizzlies are also involved in this three-team trade. Here are the full details, courtesy of an afternoon Woj bomb.

Enes Kanter is going back to Portland

Kanter signed with the Celtics in the summer of 2019 and just picked up his $5 million option for the upcoming season. The team is also sending draft pick Desmond Bane to Memphis, while Portland gives the Grizzlies a player in Mario Hezonja.

Kanter expressed his excitement on Twitter following the move.

The center first played with Portland during the latter half of the 2018-19 season after being waived by the struggling New York Knicks. He now returns to form quite the dynamic duo alongside Jusuf Nurkic as Portland should be a true contender out west if fully healthy all season.

Kanter appeared in 58 games for the Celtics last season, averaging just over eight points and seven rebounds per game. He was in more of a reserve role, with just under 17 minutes per game. That was his lowest minute total since the 2012-13 season.

The Celtics are now going through a transition. Kanter is gone and Gordon Hayward has declined his option to hit the open market. There was also some chatter about a Kemba Walker trade, but that seems to have subsided for the moment.

Kanter was not all that dynamic in Boston, but did appear to be a great teammate and representative for the city. Now he goes back to Portland where he already shined once in limited action.
