New Orleans Saints owner Gayle Benson nearly had her car jacked with her inside of it.
Stopping an attempting carjacking is now on New Orleans Saints owner Gayle Benson’s resume.
Yes, you are reading that correctly. The Saints owner nearly had her car jacked with her inside of it. The attempting carjacking took place last weekend in Uptown, New Orleans. A Nissan Titan parked next to Benson’s vehicle, and then the intruder entered the vehicle and tried to take it from her. By screaming for help, Benson was able to prevent her car from being stolen.
“While she was very shaken at the time, she was unharmed and is doing fine,” said longtime Saints and New Orleans Pelicans spokesman Greg Bensel in a statement Friday. “She wanted to send her sincere gratitude to the men and women of the New Orleans Police Department that responded so quickly and professionally.”
This has to be one of the craziest stories we’ve heard in a long time.
So Benson is just sitting there in her car in Uptown, New Orleans, minding her own business, when suddenly a Nissan Titan parks directly next to her and then somebody comes out of the vehicle to try to take it from her? Bringing attention to the situation by screaming was the best way for the intruder to leave the scene. Thankfully, Benson was not harmed in the event.
The Saints are on a bye this week, as their next game will be at home vs. the NFC South rival Carolina Panthers on Oct. 25 in Week 7 of the 2020 NFL season. There have been a lot of strange stories in 2020, but this one is right up there. Carjackings happen from time to time, but for it to involve the majority owner of an NFL and NBA franchise is stranger than fiction.
Hopefully, the perpetrator is caught for trying to steal Benson’s car with her inside of it.
