With Carmelo Anthony set to be a free agent this offseason, there appears to be interest from the Knicks in bringing him back to New York.
When Carmelo Anthony used to play for the New York Knicks, he’d light up Madison Square Garden on a nightly basis. Matter of fact, if you bring up his name on 7th Avenue in Manhattan, there’s a good chance the food vendors will continue to sing his praises.
That’s how much ‘Melo’ meant to the city back when he was draining 3-pointers from all over the floor. With all that being said, could we end up seeing back in New York at the start of next season?
Per a report, the Knicks have interest in making that happen. Anthony just wrapped up a fine end of the season with the Portland Trail Blazers. He’s set to become a free agent and can sign anywhere he pleases. Could he ink with the Knicks?
While the Knicks are interested in Carmelo Anthony, the veteran forward has said he wants to return to Portland
Leon Rose has high interest in the Knicks welcoming Anthony back with open arms, but things aren’t going to be quite that simple. Anthony was given a second chance by the Trail Blazers this past season and he took full advantage of it.
Anthony averaged 15.4 points per game in 2019-20, starting 58 games for Portland. The Trail Blazers recently suffered a first-round exit in the NBA playoffs to the Los Angeles Lakers, but that hasn’t taken away from how Anthony feels about the team. If the option is there, he’s made it clear he’d love to return to the hardwood to play next to Damian Lillard and the rest of the squad.
We should find out soon enough where Anthony ends up playing. If he does return to the Knicks, you better believe fans in New York will go wild following the announcement.
