The Suns sent positive vibes Brooklyn’s way with a photo of Devin Booker in a Nets jersey.
The only team that might have been as dominant as the Phoenix Suns during this NBA restart is the Suns’ social media team. This usually impressive group has always been great, but since Phoenix started giving people reasons to be excited about their play in the Orlando bubble, they’ve been on top of their game.
Case in point: Tweeting out an old photo of Devin Booker in a Brooklyn Nets jersey as a form of encouragement heading into the Nets’ Thursday night game against the Portland Trail Blazers.
For reference, even after going a perfect 8-0 in these seeding games, the Suns still need help to make the play-in scenario. The Memphis Grizzlies didn’t provide it, locking up their play-in spot with a win over the Milwaukee Bucks earlier in the day, but if the 5-2 Nets beat the 5-2 Blazers, the Suns will sneak into the No. 9 spot and get a chance to compete for their first playoff berth since 2010.
Hence, the Suns are now the Nets’ biggest fans.
Funnily enough, this isn’t even a well-done Photoshop; back in February of 2019, former Nets guard D’Angelo Russell posted that photo of Booker on his Instagram while they were on vacation together. Booker, Russell and Karl-Anthony Towns are all friends, and given that it was Russell’s first All-Star season that year, it wasn’t that surprising to see Book support D-Lo by wearing his friend’s jersey.
It was probably alarming to Suns fans at the time, but now that this young group in Phoenix is taking off and finally allowing Booker the chance to play in meaningful games, we’ve reached a point where tweeting out that forgotten photo is the perfect way to reinforce what Book said in his postgame interview on TNT on Thursday: “I’m a big Brooklyn Nets fan.”
