LeBron James is really excited about Space Jam.
After Joe Pytka made the unusual decision to pair up NBA superstar Michael Jordan with the Looney Tunes in a movie about basketball in outer space, “Space Jam” became one of the most popular animated movies of the 1990s. While critics were lukewarm to the film, it became a cultural touchstone for basketball fans young and old. Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James liked the film so much he decided to get a sequel together, and he finally wrapped up shooting on “Space Jam: A New Legacy.”
A video of James giving an emotional speech to all the cast and crew members on the last day of shooting has appeared on social media, and the clip shows how passionate James is about making this movie, which will be released next year, a success.
“I’m super excited about this film,” James said. “I grew up idolizing the whole Space Jam everything.”
Space Jam 2 features some of today’s biggest NBA stars.
Much like the original, “A New Legacy” has roped in some of the most recognizable players in the NBA. In addition to James in the starring role, Anthony Davis, Damian Lillard, Chris Paul, and Klay Thompson will be featured prominently. In addition to these stars, some of the biggest names in the WNBA are going to be in this movie, as Diana Taurasi and sisters Nneka and Chiney Ogwumike will have roles in this film.
In the speech, James also unveiled the jerseys he and the rest of the Tune Squad will wear in the movie. They’re certainly a bit louder than the jersey Jordan wore in the original, and they’re sure to be pretty divisive.

While LeBron isn’t a Hollywood rookie, it remains to be seen if his sequel can stand up to the much-loved original.
