Knicks reportedly finalizing five-year deal to make Tom Thibodeau new head coach

The Knicks are on the verge of hiring Tom Thibodeau as their new head coach

The long wait for New York Knicks fans curious to see who the franchise’s next head coach will be appears to finally be over. In his latest ‘Woj Bomb’ of epic proportions, NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski is reporting the Knicks are finalizing a deal with Tom Thibodeau.

Thibodeau has plenty of coaching experience, but hasn’t been on the bench following the 2019 campaign with the Minnesota Timberwolves. He’ll now look to get his career back on track at Madison Square Garden.

The Knicks are hiring Tom Thibodeau

The 62-year-old Thibodeau and the Knicks are working on a five-year contract per Wojnarowski. The details of said contract are yet to be revealed. However, it looks like all that’s left is for ‘Thibs’ to sign on the dotted line to take things over in Manhattan.

Thibodeau has been in the coaching ranks since the early 1980s where he started as an assistant coach with Salem State. He joined the NBA in 1989 as an assistant for the Timberwolves. His first head coaching gig came with Bulls in 2010. He was with Chicago until 2015 and then took over in Minnesota in 2016 and spent four campaigns with the T-Wolves.

Now, Thibodeau will have the tough challenge of taking over a Knicks franchise which has been in disarray for years now. Last season, the Knicks finished 17-65, which of course was a complete and total embarrassment. However, there’s plenty of youth in this squad, including former Duke star R.J. Barrett.

It’ll be on Thibodeau to try and turn this bus around and get New York fans excited about basketball in the city once again. Only time will tell if he’ll be able to get that job done.
