The 2020 NBA season is on hold after Utah Jazz player, Rudy Gobert, tests positive for coronavirus.
The NBA has taken a huge hit on Wednesday night as the entire season has been suspended following Rudy Gobert’s positive coronavirus diagnosis. The news broke shortly after the Oklahoma City Thunder vs. Utah Jazz game was abruptly halted just minutes before tipoff when the team doctor came running onto the court. We now know why.
Gobert was initially reported as out with an illness, which means he could have potentially infected any number of teammates, players, personnel, and fans over the course of the last few days.
This is not the first thing that is being disrupted due to the coronavirus (also referred to as COVID-19). He is also not the first celebrity to be diagnosed. Just minutes before the report of his diagnosis was announced it was revealed that Hollywood actor and actress Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson were also diagnosed.
And leave it to Twitter to totally freak out (rightly so).
The coronavirus first emerged in Dec. 2019 in the city of Wuhan, China. To date, more than 100,000 cases have been confirmed worldwide and the virus has been identified in more than 120 countries, including the United States.
