Detroit Pistons guard Derrick Rose has dropped out of the Skills Challenge at All-Star Weekend in Chicago for reasons that are “injury-related,” a source tells ESPN’s Eric Woodyard.
The 2011 MVP was scheduled to compete in front of his hometown crowd during the All-Star Showcase on February 15 in the United Center.
Rose, who left the Pistons’ win over Denver on Sunday with a groin issue, was ruled out of their game against Phoenix Wednesday with a left hip abductor strain.
He previously earned the skills title as a member of the Chicago Bulls as a rookie in 2009.
Rose is currently averaging 18.5 points and 5.8 assists per game, which are his most since the 2011-12 season, while shooting a career-best 49.8 percent from the field.
