Knicks quietly parting ways with GM Scott Perry after turnaround season

According to Steve Popper of Newsday, the Knicks and General Manager Scott Perry are parting ways after six seasons. This comes on the heels of a very successful season, with the Knicks reaching the second round of the playoffs for the first time in a long time. It is a bit surprising that Perry and the Knicks are parting ways, but to be clear, he wasn’t fired his contract is up and the Knicks have decided not to renew it.

Perry and the Knicks’ front office were able to make a stellar move in signing Jalen Brunson. This signing was viewed as an overpay but a lot of the national media but it turned out to be a huge success. Before that, was a mixed bag. He failed to land top-tier free agents after trading Kristaps Porzingis. He drafted somewhat well with his biggest bust being Kevin Knox under his watch. His biggest steal was Mitch Robinson who was taken in the second round of that same draft.

A little time after that failure, the Knicks hired Leon Rose who took over the front office. Perry was still GM but it was clear that it was Rose had the final say over player personnel decisions.

Who will replace Scott Perry as Knicks GM?

With Bob Myers just stepping down from his job with the Warriors, it would seem like this is an ideal landing spot for him if he chooses to continue his work in the league. Adding Myers’ ability to motivate a locker room with Leon Rose’s CAA connections could make one of the best front offices in the league if they could co-exist with each other.

Kris Pursiainen has reported that the Knicks will be looking at an in-house option, with names like Gersson Rosas and Walt Perrin near the top of the list. Rosas was most recently the general manager of the Timberwolves.

With a longer tenure than any other front office member, Leon Rose will now have a lot more control and whoever is hired will be someone who is helping to complement his vision.
