Bucks’ new coaching hire doesn’t answer questions about their future

The Bucks have reportedly hired Adrian Griffin as their next head coach but the hire doesn’t really answer the big questions about their future

After Nick Nurse pulled his name from the Bucks head coaching position, Milwaukee hired Adrian Griffin as their next head coach.

The Bucks were deciding between the Raptors assistant and Warriors assistant Kenny Atkinson as their final two candidates. It seems that Milwaukee was looking for someone who had shown that he could develop players.

Griffin certainly has a résumé worthy of developing young players, as in his last stop. He was instrumental in developing the core members of the Toronto Raptors roster over the last couple of years.

Hiring a veteran established coach would have help clean up questions about the Bucks roster. Milwaukee is a team with aging veterans who are all mostly in need of contract extensions this season or the next. Of course, any veteran coach would have to accept the job.

Still, it seems quite obvious that anyone would want to coach a Top 10 player like Giannis Antetokounmpo, who is also the most coachable star in the league.

Bucks spurn veteran head coaching option with Adrian Griffin hire

It was a bit surprising that the Bucks did not go for a veteran head coaching option considering their roster is built to win now and is not a developing core. Still, if this is what Giannis Antetokounmpo wants, then this is what the Bucks should do.

Antetokounmpo has two more years left on his contract (with a player option for the third which he will decline pending major injury). With that and their first-round exit this season in mind, the Bucks should be in the Antetokounmpo pleasing business.

It seems like the Suns and 76ers will be able to focus their energy on hiring someone like Nick Nurse. Obviously, it’s clear that Nurse preferred to work with the timeline in Phoenix or Philadelphia rather than with the Bucks timeline.

If the Suns are able to make the right moves when it comes to adding depth to their roster, they would be the best choice for any coach during this hiring cycle.

The James Harden rumors to Houston makes a team like the Suns the better option for any head coach in this league.
