NBA Draft, San Antonio Spurs

Skip Bayless immediately killed the Spurs vibe after winning NBA Draft Lottery

Skip Bayless decided to spoil the moment for the San Antonio Spurs after they won the draft lottery and the rights to draft Victor Wembanyama.

If you haven’t heard by now, the San Antonio Spurs are the favorite team of sportswriter and television personality Skip Bayless.

So, when the Spurs won the 2023 NBA Draft Lottery and the rights to draft international superstar Victor Wembanyama, no doubt Bayless was excited. That’s all well and good. But then, Bayless took to Twitter, and that’s where the festivities ceased to exist.

Um… No city loves its NBA team any more than San Antonio loves its Spurs. Fans would beg to differ. Plus, didn’t Bayless say that he was out on Gregg Popovich?

Skip Bayless killed the vibe by going after Gregg Popovich despite the Spurs landing Victor Wembanyama

While Skip Bayless may be right about what he said, now was not the time to do so. This is almost as bad as Rob Parker taking cheap shots at Tom Brady every chance he gets (Parker winds up looking worse every time). The reality is the Spurs should be pleased.

The franchise has not had a cornerstone player since Tim Duncan. Yes, Kawhi Leonard was a superstar, but he never could ascend to the level of stardom and love Duncan, and David Robinson had during their tenures, despite winning Finals MVP in 2014.

Nonetheless, the time is now for the Spurs to revive themselves. Popovich has success working with international stars, and having Wembanyama in the fold is a step in the right direction of bringing the Spurs back to prominence.

Plus, look on the bright side; we will get to see Charles Barkley talk about San Antonio more and a certain group of inhabitants that will make Shaq howl with laughter despite hearing the same joke over a million times. Congrats to the Spurs; they hit the jackpot, even if Skip Bayless had to ruin the moment with his takes.
