Deandre Ayton OUT for Game 6, Nuggets-Suns spread shifts

Injuries are mounting for the Phoenix Suns ahead of Game 6.

While Chris Paul has been out since the second half of Game 2, another Suns starter is set to miss Game 6 with news dropping Thursday afternoon that Deandre Ayton will miss the win-or-go-home matchup against the Denver Nuggets with a rib contusion.

Ayton suffered the injury in the middle of Game 5, a Suns loss to fall down 3-2 in the series. The big man has struggled with Nikola Jokic all series as the team has started to lean into big man Jock Landale off the bench more and more as the series has progressed.

While the former No. 1 pick has struggled, he is one of the few big men on the Suns roster that can even see the floor, so his impact will be felt simply by being a big body to play with Jokic down low.

Ayton has averaged 10 points and eight rebounds while shooting 57% from the field in over 29 minutes per game. However, he has been a minus-59 on the floor through five games.

Despite his struggles, the replacements aren’t there for Phoenix, which is evident in the point spread that moved one point off the news that Ayton will be out. Phoenix is currently a two-point home favorite in a must win home game.
