Kevin Durant injury: Suns star out vs. Thunder after being hurt in warmups

Phoenix Suns star Kevin Durant was injured after slipping on the court during warmups prior to the team’s game against the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Every game that Kevin Durant has started for the Phoenix Suns, they have won. The Suns made the huge splash to acquire Durant from the Brooklyn Nets ahead of the trade deadline to put them over the edge in a tough Western Conference.

Durant was set to start in his fourth game with Phoenix on Wednesday night, where he was set to face his former team, the Oklahoma City Thunder. During warmups, however, Durant slipped on the court at the Footprint Center when attempting a layup, and landed awkwardly on his left ankle. As a result of this fall, Durant was listed as a late scratch for the Suns. The team announced that Durant was dealing with left ankle soreness, and that Torrey Craig would start in his place.

This news is a bummer for those who purchased tickets for the game, as this was supposed to be Durant’s first home contest as a member of the Suns. His prior games against the Charlotte Hornets, Chicago Bulls, and Dallas Mavericks were all on the road.

In Durant’s previous game played, he scored 37 points (12-for-17 from the field, 3-for-5 from the 3-point line), grabbed seven rebounds, and dished out three assists in 40 minutes played in the 130-126 win over the Mavericks.

Through his three games with the Suns, Durant averaged 26.7 points, 7.3 rebounds, and 3.7 rebounds while shooting 69.0 percent from the field and 53.8 percent from deep.

What is known is that Durant will be sidelined on Wednesday night. It will be worth monitoring if he will be good to go for the team’s next game on Saturday, March 11 against the Sacramento Kings.
