Hornets injury update: Will LaMelo Ball be available to play tonight?

LaMelo Ball is unlikely to play this weekend due to wrist soreness.

The Charlotte Hornets finally broke a five-game losing skid against the Houston Rockets on January 18th with a five-point victory. Unfortunately, LaMelo Ball’s health was collateral damage in the event, as he yet again finds himself on the injury report after the game.

Ball played just over 20 minutes on Wednesday night, leaving the game early to get an ankle tended to. He also injured his wrist that game and left with lingering soreness.

Will LaMelo Ball be available tonight against Atlanta Hawks?

According to Charlotte Hornets PR, Ball has been listed as doubtful for Saturday’s game against the Atlanta Hawks due to left wrist soreness. Ball sustained that injury in a game where he left the court due to a different (ankle) injury.

The Hornets said they expect Ball to undergo additional tests and evaluations, with updates to come if needed.

At 12-34, the Hornets are second-from-last in the Eastern Conference, just a few games better than the last-place Detroit Pistons.

Ball’s availability has been a sizable part of the narrative this season for Charlotte’s struggles. He has appeared in just 22 games and sustained multiple injuries along the way. When he’s available, he’s good. He is averaging 23.9 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 8.2 assists per game.

Ball, though, has only been on the floor for six Hornets wins this season. Before their win against Houston earlier this week, they had five straight games which is their third-longest skid of the season.

The next-up scorer and assist-man for the Hornets is Terry Rozier.

Injuries may also define the Hornets dealings at the NBA trade deadline, which is upcoming.
