NBA trade rumors: Knicks most recent offer for Donovan Mitchell is embarrassingly bad

The New York Knicks are reportedly motivated to land Donovan Mitchell, but their most recent offer was far below the Utah Jazz’s asking price.

The New York Knicks are highly motivated to land Donovan Mitchell, but not motivated enough with their most recent offer.

According to Tony Jones of The Athletic, “New York made a recent offer of Evan Fournier, Obi Toppin, additional salary and two unprotected first-round draft picks (five total).”

The Utah Jazz, however, has an asking price much higher than that. Mitchell is one of the best players on the Jazz, so it’s unsurprising that they’re aiming high.

For the 2021-22 season, Mitchell averaged 25.9 points per game, 4.2 rebounds and 5.3 assists. He had a field goal percentage of 44.8 and 3-point percentage of 35.5.

NBA trade rumors: Donovan Mitchell has several teams interested in him

The Knicks aren’t the only team interested in the young Utah star. The Charlotte Hornets and the Washington Wizards have also shown interest, and it’s unclear whether or not the Jazz will actually trade him.

He’s under contract through the 2025-26 season and is eligible for free agency following. Mitchell has been highly reliable, so it wouldn’t be surprising if Utah decided to hold onto him while he’s guaranteed to stay.

On the other hand, the Knicks may not be able to create a trade package up to the Jazz’s standards. According to Marc Berman of the New York Post, the Knicks were less intrigued by Utah’s high demands, and a major concern is they’ll give away “too many future assets, which could leave them stuck in an area far below championship contender.”
