Watch: Refs make atrocious call on Davis Bertans, Damion Lee skirmish

For some reason, NBA refs decided to call a double-technical on Davis Bertans and Damion Lee after a pretty inconsequential interaction.

During Game 2 of the Western Conference Finals between the Dallas Mavericks and the Golden State Warriors, referees decided to make a pretty controversial call on an incident that was pretty benign, all things considered.

The incident in question involved Davis Bertans and Damion Lee. Bertans was on the floor and, as he was attempting to get up, Damion Lee was walking and trying to step over Bertans. The two got tangled and ultimately Lee ended up getting tripped and falling onto the floor.

It’s not a really big deal, but refs (probably in an attempt of preventing things from getting messy), decided to step in.

Here’s ultimately what happened. Take a look for yourself:

NBA Playoffs: Refs make unnecessary double-technical call on Davis Bertans, Damion Lee

That’s not great. It’s not exactly nothing, but it’s probably nowhere near as big of a deal as what it could have been.

The whole interaction seems pretty benign, as far as incidents that get hit with double-technicals go. For the most part, this particular moment involving Bertans and Lee is pretty mild. It’s not a great situation, but it’s far from being an overly hostile interaction that would really require a double-technical.

This situation doesn’t seem to really require a call here. It’s not anything that is really necessary. But for some reason, the refs felt it was necessary, so it ultimately happened.
