LeBron James had Los Angeles Lakers fans panicking after his April Fool’s Day tweet.
After ruining Space Jam, LeBron James backed up his Razzie Award-winning performance as a fictionalized version of himself by sending Los Angeles Lakers fans everywhere into a full-blown panic.
It may have been April Fool’s Day, but nobody is laughing. How could they be? The Lakers are 31-45 with six games left in the regular season. They are duking it out with the San Antonio Spurs, the Sacramento Kings and the Portland Trail Blazers for play-in tournament positioning. He may have joked that he was out for the year, but the Lakers still have to play the New Orleans Pelicans.
The Pelicans are the same franchise the Lakers ripped Anthony Davis and his street clothes away from. Even without Zion Williamson, the Pelicans are two games better than the Lakers entering the first day of April. So who’s laughing now?

As much as it may pain LeBron fans everywhere, the party is over. He is not getting any younger and this team stinks. Not to say their performance directly correlated with changing the name of the house that Kobe Bryant built, but at least we all know what a staple gun is. All the while, the Lakers are as directionless as they are dysfunctional and totally decadent. They are who they are.
Though James may want to stick around and hoop it up with his namesake son, look for the Phoenix Suns to more than double the Lakers’ win total by then. If he was being totally serious about being done for the year and being one step closer to retiring, the Lakers might stand a chance of fielding a competitive team again someday. For now, it is still The LeBron James Show.
For those who have not watched it, it is nothing like The Truman Show. The star is aware of what is going on by regularly breaking character and the impenetrable fourth wall. As we sip merlot from our bejeweled goblets atop a barber shop throne, we will never forget the sanctity of the Michael Jordan cinematic masterpiece that has been improperly desecrated for the rest of time.
It would be so fitting if James sat out the play-in tournament in the year he took home the Razzie.
