NBA Twitter reaction should make Lakers regret new arena name

Some of NBA Twitter is not too fond of the Los Angeles Lakers home arena being renamed from the Staples Center to the Crypto.com Arena.

Thursday night was an end of an era for the Los Angeles Lakers. It was, technically, the very last game the team played inside the Staples Center, but the arena is not going nowhere. Instead, the venue is being renamed the Crypto.com Arena.

Even though the venue is not getting knocked down, some on NBA Twitter were not too pleased about the name change.

Again, we must stress that this is not like the Lakers are moving to a brand new arena. It is the same venue where they hoisted numerous NBA Championship banners since its opening in 1999. The only difference is that the naming rights have changed.

The Lakers bid farewell to the Staples Center name on Thursday night, where they lost to the San Antonio Spurs by the score of 138-111. LeBron James led the way with 36 points (15-of-26 from field), nine rebounds and six assists in 35 minutes of playing time. Russell Westbrook put up 30 points (12-for-20 from field), seven rebounds and four assists in the same amount of playing time.

Crytpo.com Arena will officially introduced to the NBA on Christmas Day, when the Lakers host the Brooklyn Nets. Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving will be inactive for Brooklyn due to them remaining in the league’s health and safety protocols.
