Lakers trade rumors: LA eyeing Jerami Grant to bolster frontcourt depth

The Los Angeles Lakers could potentially add Detroit Pistons forward Jerami Grant to add much-needed frontcourt depth in potential trade.

The Lakers seem to be turning things around as of late, winning five of their last seven games. Still, the team needs depth beyond massive defensive players and nimble combo guards, possessing little wind in their wings.

The name “Jerami Grant” has floated around as a possible solution to the Lakers’ deficiency, and according to recent NBA trade rumors, a Grant move to Los Angeles could be on the horizon.

According to Shams Charania, the Lakers — along with the Portland Trail Blazers — are interested in trading for Grant. Remarkably, the Pistons are open to trading their key player as they approach the rebuild mentality the Indiana Pacers have embraced.

“Jerami Grant is one of the most sought-after players in a potential trade, with the Lakers and Trail Blazers among the teams pursuing the Pistons’ versatile forward,” according to Charania. “Grant will miss extended time with torn ligaments in his right thumb, but that is not expected to impact his trade market. Dozens of teams call the Detroit front office about Grant each week, and sources said the team is open to a possible deal.”

Grant would inject life into the Lakers as a capable forward and guard, averaging 21.6 points per game in his time with Detroit.

Another perk is that Grant already has chemistry developed with Russell Westbrook and Carmelo Anthony, his former teammates with the Oklahoma City Thunder.

If the Lakers did trade for him in the imminent future, they would have to wait to utilize Grant on the court: he’s been ruled out for the next six weeks with a UCL sprain.

It would take time for a deal to materialize, but if it did, the Lakers could possibly trade players like Talen Horton-Tucker and Kendrick Nunn for Grant in the coming months.
