Isaiah Stewart tries to trademark ‘Beef Stew’ referring to beef with LeBron James

Detroit Pistons power forward Isaiah Stewart filed a trademark for “Beef Stew”, a reference to the Stewart-James debacle on Nov. 21.

There’s a beef stewing between Isaiah Stewart and LeBron James — at least, that’s the brand Isaiah is building.

According to trademark attorney Josh Gerben, the 20-year-old Pistons power forward has filed a trademark application for “Beef Stew”, a play on Stewart’s name and his famously bloody scrape with LeBron that gave the NBA veteran the second ejection of his career.

Capitalizing on the moment, Stewart’s trademark application indicates that he intends to create shirts and other clothing with the new brand.

Selected as the 16th overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft, Stewart is already blazing a trail during his second year in the league. In October, Sana Detroit, a Detroit-based clothing brand, announced an artful collaboration with Stewart depicting the skeletal big man emblazoned with flames.

When Stewart and fellow Piston Cade Cunningham showed up for an event, Stewart was decked out in a fashionable three-piece suit.

Evidently, Stewart’s interest in fits and branding his “Beef Stew” nickname predates the scuffle with LeBron.

In April, Jerami Grant was seen practicing in a “Beef Stew” t-shirt, while Stewart was seen wearing it while boarding a team flight to Dallas. Stewart filed for the trademark application this August, but his recent beef makes him and his nickname even more of a commodity.

For a young NBA player looking to build a name for himself, “Beef Stew” might be the perfect moniker for Stewart. All puns aside, the nickname could build the reputation that the 6’8″ player is willing to put it all on the line to battle on the paint.

While “Beef Stew” was little more than a playful nickname as a rookie, as Stewart’s reputation grows in the league, there’s likely more beef that will stew with this passionate baller.
