The Dallas Mavericks have plenty of options at guard besides Kyle Lowry to add in free agency.

With longtime Toronto Raptors point guard Kyle Lowry expected to be joining the Miami Heat this summer by way of a sign-and-trade, the Dallas Mavericks will have to adjust accordingly in free agency.

Though Dallas has not had a robust history in being able to attract stars in free agency, the Mavericks have an undisputed superstar out on the wing in Luka Doncic. However, if they plan on winning their first playoff series in over a decade, Doncic will need another high-end backcourt player he can count on in crunch time. Dallas will have to act fast to get a quality guard now.

Here are three guards the Mavericks should look to pursue in free agency after almost certainly missing out on Lowry.

DeMar DeRozan

SG San Antonio Spurs

DeMar DeRozan has built a hall-of-fame career as an outstanding No. 2 for years

One of the most interesting names hitting free agency is former All-Star shooting guard DeMar DeRozan. While he has continued to score at will with the San Antonio Spurs, the soon-to-be 32-year-old shooting guard from Southern California is expected to leave Texas after his three-year run with the team. He could be heading back to the West Coast, down to Miami, or to even Dallas.

While Dallas feels like a dark horse to get him, what could make the Mavericks such an appealing landing spot for DeRozan in his high-profile free agency? Well, outside of his Team USA experience, Doncic would be the best player he has ever played, and he has played with Lowry and LaMarcus Aldridge in his NBA career. He would also be able to stay in the Southwest Division.

No state income tax and being able to slot in his ideal role as a high-end No. 2 should be considered by DeRozan in his borderline hall-of-fame career. If he can get a bucket in crunch time for the Mavericks at the two-guard, that just might be enough to help Doncic win an NBA championship before he hits his mid-20s. However, DeRozan can win sooner playing elsewhere.

DeRozan is a good fit on the Mavericks roster, but he may want to head to Miami or Los Angeles.
