Andre Iguodala is heading back to the Warriors

Andre Iguodala is heading back to the Golden State Warriors in his NBA free agency.

After spending the two previous seasons with the Miami Heat, forward Andre Iguodala is heading back to the team he is best known for playing for in the Golden State Warriors.

This will be Iguodala’s 18th NBA season out of Arizona. While he had his lone All-Star season with the 2011-12 Philadelphia 76ers, it was with the Warriors that Iguodala rose to national prominence. During his six years in Golden State, he won three NBA championships, including winning 2015 NBA Finals MVP. He plans to play out the rest of his career with Golden State.

“Who would have thought I’d have the opportunity to go back to the place where I was able to have, whatever you want to call it, legacy years, in terms of the accomplishments, winning multiple championships, the relationships that I was able to build with some of my closest friends and teammates?” said Iguodala. “The relationship with the fans, the relationship with the Bay, the opportunity to end it here, was just something special.”

While this will be his age-38 season, Iguodala should still be able to contribute in some capacity on the Warriors’ quest for another championship. Given that the bulk of the Warriors’ championship core remains intact, Iguodala will fit right in during his second go around in Golden State. The question is if the Warriors have what it takes to come out of the West this season.

Golden State not only plays in the same Pacific Division as the favorite to come out of the West this year in the Los Angeles Lakers, but the two teams who played in the 2021 Western Conference Finals in the LA Clippers and the Phoenix Suns call this division home as well. Simply put, the Warriors have to be better than the fourth-best team in its own division this season.

By adding Iguodala, it only further signifies it is championship or bust in Golden State this year.
