Suns head coach Monty Williams calls out officials after Game 3 loss

Phoenix Suns head coach Monty Williams was not thrilled with the officiating in Game 3, as his team lost to the Milwaukee Bucks 120-100 on Sunday.

The Phoenix Suns were riding high after taking the first two games of the NBA Finals. History was on their side, as teams with a 2-0 lead in the Finals are 31-4 to win it all. But the Suns had a bit of a setback in Game 3 on Sunday, as they fell to the Bucks 120-100.

Phoenix had no answers for Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo, who scored 41 points in 38 minutes of playing time. Interestingly enough, 13 of his points came on 17 free throw attempts. After the game, Suns head coach Monty Williams said that while he did not want to publicly complain about the officiating, he did point out that the team only had 16 shots at the charity stripe all game, as opposed to Antetokounmpo’s 17.

We heard similar from Bucks head coach Mike Budenholzer following Game 1, after the Suns earned had 26 free throw attempts, as opposed to their 16.

In Game 3, the Suns player who had the most free throw attempts was guard Devin Booker, who successfully converted three of his five shots. There were six other players to reach the charity stripe for a grand total of 11 attempts, where they made eight of them. As for the Bucks, they made 20-of-26 free throw attempts in Game 3.

The Suns could not keep up with the Bucks with guard Devin Booker struggling throughout the contest. Booker scored 10 points while shooting a dismal 3-for-14 from the field, forcing him to be subbed out after 29 minutes of playing time.

This is no time for Suns fans to panic. The team still has a 2-1 Finals lead over the Bucks, and have the opportunity to bounce back in Game 4 on Wednesday night. If they do so and win, they are that much closer to winning their first NBA title in franchise history.
