Steve Kerr thinks Kevin Durant should be considered the NBA’s most gifted player ever, even more so than the great Michael Jordan.
Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr has high praise for Kevin Durant, comparing the Brooklyn Nets star to none other than Michael Jordan.
Kerr and Durant will be reunited in Tokyo as part of Team USA’s men’s Olympic basketball squad this summer. In discussing Durant’s historic performances during the NBA playoffs and his excitement to coach the two-time Finals MVP again, Kerr let it slip that he thinks Durant may be the most talented basketball player to ever do it.
“(Durant) just showed he’s the most talented basketball player on earth, if not of all time,” Kerr told Dalton Johnson of NBC Sports.
That is high praise indeed coming from a guy who played alongside and won championships with the legendary Michael Jordan.
Although when you think about it, Kerr may have more first-hand knowledge to compare Durant and Jordan than anyone else in the basketball world. He won two NBA titles as a teammate of Jordan’s, and two while coaching Durant.

“I think (Durant)’s more gifted, I really do. That’s saying something, but Kevin is an entirely different breed. He’s 6-11 with guard skills, unlimited 3-point range, passing, shot-blocking — his shot-blocking at the rim, it’s just stunning. Watching him this year was really, really gratifying to see.”
The debate over the NBA’s all-time starting five is hard enough, let alone trying to choose a single greatest player. Plus, we’re pretty sure LeBron James would like a word. All we can say with certainty is NBA fans are lucky to be witnessing so many stars in their prime right now.
That said, Steve Kerr is not wrong. With his most recent playoff masterpieces, Kevin Durant belongs in the conversation for the most gifted NBA player of all time.
