Anthony Davis gives update on health just a few weeks after return from injury

Los Angeles Lakers big man Anthony Davis thinks his health is improving at the right time, albeit slowly.

The Lakers loss at the hands of the Dallas Mavericks on Friday night was a big one, as Luka Doncic’s squad sits just behind Los Angeles in the Western Conference standings. Should the Lakers fall into the five spot, they’ll no long hold homecourt advantage in the first round. As much as LeBron James and Frank Vogel say they don’t mind where they’re seeded come playoff time, that position might be a bit out of their comfort zone.

The time to turn things around is now, and with LeBron back with Anthony Davis in full swing, these Lakers should start looking like the 2020 version soon enough.

Lakers: Anthony Davis gives somewhat positive update on health

Davis spot to reporters after Friday’s loss to the Mavericks, giving an update on how he’s progressed in the few games since his return from injury.

Per Mike Trudel of Sportsnet, Davis said he’s ““starting to get my quickness back a little bit on defense,” and would “rather go through it now in the regular season.”

That much is true. By the time the Lakers reach the postseason, they need Davis and James at full strength or else they’ll be at a significant disadvantage in the crowded West. While the last few losses have been frustrating for the players and fans alike, both of LA’s stars are getting their feet wet and learning to play with new third wheel Andre Drummond, who’s added a solid rebounding punch and rim presence down low.

Assuming these team can start firing on all cylinders (big assumption), they’ll be the overwhelming favorite out West. But for now, proceed with caution.
