Golden State Warriors, Kevin Durant

Kevin Durant is going to get a tribute video from the Warriors

Leaving for the Brooklyn Nets certainly didn’t endear Kevin Durant to the Golden State Warriors’ faithful, but the team is still planning to honor him.

The last time Kevin Durant played in front of a Golden State Warriors‘ home crowd was May 8, 2019 — Game 6 of the Western Conference Finals against the Houston Rockets. In the nearly two years since he has suffered and recovered from a catastrophic Achilles’ injury, left for the Brooklyn Nets and said plenty of stuff on social media.

It feels like a lifetime ago that he was a member of the Warriors but this Saturday, Feb. 13, will actually be his first time playing the Warriors on the road. Durant will be on the visiting team and his rocky relationship with the organization doesn’t seem to have been smoothed over much. But the Warriors have announced that they will honor Durant’s time with the team with a video tribute before the game. There won’t be fans in the arena because of pandemic restrictions so the Warriors have announced they’ll also play the video whenever he is able to play there with fans in attendance.

The Warriors are doing the right thing by honoring Kevin Durant

Both sides may have burned some bridges during Durant’s final season with the Warriors but he was a member of two extraordinary teams and helped lead them to a pair of titles. Some will argue that the Warriors didn’t need Durant in those seasons but they had just lost that infamous 3-1 lead without him and he certainly made sure they didn’t come close to anything like that again.

This should be a perfect opportunity for former teammates and allies to let go of any lingering frustrations, celebrate all they accomplished together and focus on the good times.
