Lonzo Ball is already stoking the sibling rivalry, trash-talking LaMelo

Lonzo Ball feels he has an advantage over younger brother LaMelo Ball when the two face off next season.

Love him or hate him, LaVar Ball spoke it into existence. Last week, youngest son LaMelo was selected third overall by the Charlotte Hornets in the 2020 NBA Draft. With that pick, LaMelo and oldest sibling Lonzo are the first pair of brothers to be selected in the top-five of the draft in NBA history. It’s only a matter of time before we get the “Ball Family Collision” between the Hornets and the New Orleans Pelicans in the very near future. There’s already sibling trash talk taking place, and of course, it’s from Lonzo.

During an appearance on J.J. Reddick’s podcast, Lonzo said he feels that when the two face off, he holds the advantage and that LaMelo will have a “tough night.”

Lonzo Ball drops the mic

The eldest brother picking on the baby brother? Not surprising. But will Lonzo be able to back up the trash talk?

Lonzo is coming off a strong first season with the Pelicans, where he averaged 11.8 points, 7.0 assists and 6.1 rebounds per game while shooting 40.3 percent from the field and 37.5 percent from the 3-point line. It certainly helps that he gets to play alongside Zion Williamson and Brandon Ingram, as well as new additions in Eric Bledsoe and Steven Adams.

As for LaMelo, he opted against playing collegiate ball and decided to play professionally with the Illawarra Hawks of the National Basketball League. Ball appeared in 12 games, where he averaged 17.0 points, 7.6 rebounds and 6.8 assists a night, while posting a 37.5 field-goal percentage. Ball joins a young Hornets team but with a sharpshooting veteran and $120 million man Gordon Hayward to target (when healthy).

Admit it, you’re completely invested in the upcoming LaMelo vs. Lonzo matchup. But who will walk away with the “W” and the family bragging rights? We’ll find out soon.
