Turns out the Hornets actually did a good job with the Terry Rozier contract

Doug Branson joins the latest episode of Fastbreak Breakfast to discuss how Terry Rozier and Devonte’ Graham are leading the Hornets.

Despite having the lowest preseason Vegas over/under win total and being roundly lambasted for the contract they gave Terry Rozier in the sign-and-trade of Kemba Walker, the Hornets are currently a not-terrible 9-14.

Perhaps even more surprising is Rozier seems to be living up to the three-year, $58-million deal he signed. There was little question that with increased opportunity and playing time in Charlotte he would post career-high numbers. But his shooting stats are promising, as he is attempting almost seven three-pointers per game and hitting them at an impressive 40.3% rate. He is making more 3-pointers per game AND shooting a higher percentage than Brad Beal, CJ McCollum, and Jamal Murray.

So how much would a 25-year old combo guard posting 18 points, 4 assists and 4 rebounds per game on 44/40/86 splits theoretically make in this summer’s upcoming free agency when numerous teams will have massive amounts of cap space and the collection of available players is far from impressive? Possibly more than the remaining 2 years and $38 million owed to Rozier? Is it possible Rozier’s contract is a fair, or even good, deal?

To answer that question, Doug Branson (@dougbransonLOH) from Locked on Hornets joins the latest episode of Fastbreak Breakfast. In addition, the following topics are addressed:

  • Who is Devonte’ Graham, how is he making so many three-pointers, and did anyone see this coming?
  • Should PJ Washington be in the Rookie of the Year discussion?
  • Will the Hornets be able to trade away veterans Marvin Williams and Cody Zeller?
  • Is acquiring Andre Drummond a good idea? Why not?
