Sixers name Hibbert to player development role

The Philadelphia 76ers have hired former NBA center Roy Hibbert as player development specialist, the team announced Wednesday.

Hibbert, 32, played in the league for nine seasons and was a two-time All-Star with the Indiana Pacers. The 7-foot-2 Hibbert finished second in Defensive Player of the Year voting in 2013-14, when the Pacers went to their second of back-to-back Eastern Conference finals.

Hibbert finished his career with a season with the Los Angeles Lakers in 2015-16 and stints with Charlotte and Denver before retiring in 2018.

Hibbert is expected to be working with big men Joel Embiid, who is entering his fourth season, and Al Horford, who joined the team as a free agent in the offseason.

In other moves, the 76ers also promoted former NBA center Ruben Boumtje Boumtje to assistant general manager of G-League Delaware, promoted Remy Ndiaye to player development specialist and added Lorena Torres as performance director.
