LeBron James is taking his talents to prime-time television to honor graduating high school seniors. The event will include cameos from other celebrities as well.
LeBron James cordially invites graduating high school seniors to a prime-time show honoring them.
Due to the Coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic, in-person commencement celebrations have been canceled around the globe. While this comes as unexpected bad news for students who have worked their whole lives to get to this point, James will shed some light. The LeBron James Family Foundation will partner with XQ Institute and the Entertainment Institute Foundation to air a live program on television and stream online. Titled “Graduate Together: America Honors the High School Class of 2020,” the event is slated to air May 16.
“Working on something special for you high school class of 2020. See you May 16,” James tweeted on Wednesday.
Along with the message, James tweeted a digital flyer. The flyer includes a high school image of James in a superlative, year book fashion in between the words “most likely to open a school, LeBron Raymone James.” In 2018 James opened the I Promise School, an elementary school in his hometown Akron, Ohio.
The event will air on all major television channels, social media platforms and streaming services, according to ESPN. In addition to James, Nobel prize winner Malala Yousafzai and Team USA women’s soccer gold medalist Megan Rapinoe will be involved. There will also be musical acts headlined by Pharrell Williams, Bad Bunny and the Jonas Brothers.
“It’s been a hard few months for all of us, but I especially really feel for the senior class of 2020,” James said in a statement to ESPN. “The end of high school and graduation was one of the best memories of my life. It’s not fair. Every graduating senior needs to know how much we feel for them and hopefully this can help, even a little. This class is going to be special because they know in a real way how to persevere.”
