What is Jaylen Brown worth to the Celtics?

Michael Pina joins the latest episode of Fastbreak Breakfast to discuss some issues facing the Celtics.

The Celtics are expected to once again be one of the best teams in the Eastern Conference, but still have several questions that need to sorted out. One of the biggest ones is: What should they do with Jaylen Brown?

Entering his fourth season, Brown is a promising young wing who is an important part of the lineup, but is now eligible for a contract extension. If no agreement is reached, he will be highly coveted in restricted free agency in the underwhelming 2020 class. The Celtics would then be forced to consider if it would be prudent to trade him during the year rather than having to match a gigantic offer sheet to keep him.

So what will Danny Ainge and the front office do? Pay him, trade him, or play it out?

To answer that question, Michael Pina (@michaelvpina) joins the latest episode of Fastbreak Breakfast. Michael is an NBA writer for SB Nation and hosts the Winning Plays podcast. In addition to assessing Brown’s value and sussing out what return he may fetch in a hypothetical trade, the following topics are discussed:

  • Did the disappointing Team USA finish at the FIBA World Cup dampen any enthusiasm for Boston’s nucleus?
  • Is Marcus Smart at center going to be the Celtics version of a Death Lineup?
  • Which young player is most likely to play a crucial role in the rotation?
  • What are some ways Boston may look to bolster it’s frontcourt?

Fastbreak Breakfast is a podcast for serious NBA fans that is incredibly not serious. All episodes are available on Apple Podcasts and Soundcloud or any other major podcast service.
