Which second year players are ready for a breakout, and more Summer League analysis

A new episode of Fastbreak Breakfast looks at second-year players ready to breakout, and reviews the rookies and notable performances of NBA Summer League.

Not only is NBA Summer League a showcase for draft picks and rookies, it’s also a chance for returning players to demonstrate that they could be ready for increased roles in the coming season.

On the latest episode of Fastbreak Breakfast, Cole Zwicker (@colezwicker) joins to discuss sophomores like Lonnie Walker IV, Bruce Brown Jr and Anfernee Simons, who hope to use Summer League as a launching pad for the regular season. Cole is a draft analyst for The Stepien and regular contributor on The Game Theory podcast. In addition to reviewing the returning players who both excelled and disappointed, we cover every first round pick who played, plus other standouts.

Among the topics covered:

  • Did we find out anything about Zion Williamson in the nine minutes he played?
  • Is Summer League Most Valuable Player Brandon Clarke better than Ja Morant?
  • How will the skills of Grant Williams and Carsen Edwards translate for the Boston Celtics when the games matter?
  • What are the concerns and hopes for the New York Knicks’ young core? What did we learn (if anything) about Mitchell Robinson, Kevin Knox, R.J. Barrett and Ignas Brazdeikis?
  • Did Terence Davis set an example for players to follow who don’t make it into the first round of the draft?
  • Who is Kendrick Nunn, where did he come from, and why couldn’t anyone stop him?

Fastbreak Breakfast is a podcast for serious NBA fans that is incredibly not serious. All episodes are available on Apple Podcasts and Soundcloud or any other major podcast service.
